A Survey on Indoor Vehicle Localization Through RFID Technology

This paper presents a state-of-the-art analysis on the methods suitable for vehicle indoor localization and exploiting RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) technology. The survey describes three main categories of systems: (i) solutions only technology, (ii) sensor-fusion techniques combining data from systems proprioceptive sensors, (iii) combing with those other exteroceptive sensors in addition to system itself. For each method, implementation methodological details are discussed, by highlighting applied namely passive HF-RFID, UHF-RFID, or any system. Also, employed parameters, i.e., tag EPC, RSSI backscattered phase, discussed. focuses achievable performance, also accounting infrastructure-deployment costs together complexity maintenance overhead. Positioning, tracking, navigation simultaneous mapping (SLAM) issues here considered. highlights pros cons challenges perspectives RFID-based localization.
